It’s Mardi Gras time in the Big Easy! Xavier students may be interested in attending the parades around the city, but some are not sure on where to go and which parades will be fun to attend.
An exciting reason for Xavier students to attend Mardi Gras 2015 is to see our very own president, Dr. Norman C. Francis. He has been honored as grand marshal of the Krewe of Zulu. According to Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club president Naaman C. Stewart the honor was well deserved because of Francis’ contributions to New Orleans in education and civil rights.
Dean Joseph Byrd, Vice President of Student Services, had some enticing things to say about Mardi Gras 2015. “Students should attend Mardi Gras parades to learn about the culture and to have fun,” said Dean Byrd. He also explained that the Mardi Gras experience will teach students about the diversity of New Orleans and how the students will enjoy the beauty of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras parades that Dean Byrd recommends students attending is the Endymion, Bacchus, and the Zulu parade. “Walk in groups, stay on main streets, and be safe,” advised Dean Byrd.
Let’s makes this Mardi Gras a fun experience. Be safe, and have fun! Below are the times, dates, and locations of popular parades.
